Why winter is the best time to get tattooed
The best time to show off your tattoos are in the summer months. Shorts, bathing suits and tank tops make it easy. But remember, if your tattoo is still pretty fresh, it needs time to heal, and cannot be exposed to sunlight. Some tattoos can take between three and six months to completely heal, with the first four to six weeks being the most important period of healing.
For the first two weeks, the tattoo can not be fully soaked in water. This goes for sun exposure as well, as color retention will remain higher if kept away from it. In fact, the less exposure your new tattoo gets to the elements, the better chance your tattoo will have in healing without a chance of infection.
Sweat is another thing that factors into your tattoo’s healing process. Due to colder temperatures, it’s less likely that you will be sweating during the winter. This is good for your tattoo, as sweat will aggravate it.
Another reason winter is prime tattoo time: appearance. In the beginning, your tattoo will go through some ugly phases. It’s possible that your tattoo may scab, peal, or even puss. If you get your tattoo during the winter, it will likely be covered for the majority of the healing process. By the time the warmer months roll around, your tattoo will be fully healed and ready to show off!
